Dr. Chang Immigrated to the United States from China in 1950. He attended Duke University undergraduate and medical school. Completing a general surgical internship and residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center (Including one year as a clinical fellow of the American Cancer Society), he continued in a fellowship in pediatric surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Health Sciences Center's Children's Hospital. Returning to Denver in 1976, Dr. Chang became Chairman of the Department of Pediatric Surgery at the Denver Children's Hospital. From 1980 to 1985 he joined the faculty of the University of Texas Health Sciences Center, Dallas, where he initiated the liver transplantation program which performed the first successful liver transplantation in the state of Texas in 1983.

Dr. Jack ChangReturning to Denver in 1985, he practiced for six years at the Children's Hospital. In 1990, Dr. Chang moved his practice to Presbyterian/St. Luke's Hospital along with many private practicing pediatric physicians and surgeons to continue their philosophy of personalized and efficient pediatric care. In 1992 he performed the first open uterine fetal surgery (for congenital diaphragmatic hernia) in Colorado. The child is well and living In New England.

Married for over thirty five years, Dr. Chang has three children and five grandchildren. Dr. Chang's medical Interests are neonatal surgery, minimally invasive surgery, and the history of pediatric surgery. His hobbies includes the history of whaling and the forensic studies of the art of scrimshaw and has lectured at the New Bedford Whaling Museum. In fair weather he can be found fly-fishing (not catching) in many of Colorado's rivers.
