Fasting Instructions
As the presence of food or liquid in the stomach at the time of surgery is very dangerous, it is extremely important for your child to fast before surgery. No solid food after midnight.. Your child may have milk or formula 6 hours prior to surgery. Your child may have breast milk 4 hours prior to surgery. Your child may have clear liquids such as apple juice, sugar water, Jell-O, popsicles, or Pedialyte 4 hours prior to surgery. Nothing by mouth including water 4 hours prior to surgery.
Pain Relievers
Use only Acetaminophen products (Tylenol) if needed for pain relief up to 1 week before surgery. Ibuprofen products (Motrin, Advil) and aspirin can cause bleeding problems at the time of surgery.
Notifying
RMPS
If your child becomes ill with a cold, ear infection, diarrhea, etc., please call the office. If your child is scheduled for a hernia or testicle surgery and develops a diaper rash, please call the office. If your child is exposed to chicken pox or measles, please call the office. Insurance
The primary responsibility for your child's insurance is yours. Our office will contact your insurance company to obtain pre-authorization for your child's surgery. When pre-authorization is obtained it is never a guarantee of payment. Please be aware of your policy's specific requirements.
Please note: Depending on the complexity of your child's surgery, there may be a surgical assistant used.
